If you can remember back, just a while ago TTC drivers used to wear special hats, ties, shirts and jackets. I personally felt the uniforms looked really great and made me feel like the drivers took pride in their work. Recently I have seen some of the drivers getting back to their roots by actually sporting their caps and ties. When I see this, I feel more proud to be riding the bus; I sometimes don't even notice the stench of a long day on the other passengers. All of the drivers I have seen wearing the proper hat and tie seem to have more confidence, seem more approachable, and appear to take more joy in their work.

As of late, I have heard about several instances where TTC bus drivers are assaulted, and every time I ride the bus I see the “respect sign” that says at least one TTC driver is assaulted daily. This being said, I am not sure who in their right mind would be comfortable assaulting someone just trying to do their job, and I can't pretend to get inside their heads, but I know when I see a driver “kicking it old school” with his proper cap and tie on this commands respect.

When bus drivers dress the part, it makes me feel proud to ride Toronto Transit; I also feel that I am receiving a more high quality customer service experience. Drivers:  take pride in your job, demand the respect of your passengers, and feel more confident by bringing back the hat and tie.
